Islam and women rights

There has been talked a lot now days about women rights in Islam.

Many Alim e Din (muslim scholars) have now started discovering the verses of equality, dignity, and prosperity for women in Quran and Hadith. Zakir Naik has a whole series of lectures only on glorification of women in Islam.

Let us move away from the hype and go to the authentic Islamic scriptures to see how women are glorified. “Islam and Women Rights” is one topic where I completely agree with Zakir Naik that to know about Islam, do not look at Muslims, but peep into the Islamic scriptures.

So let us have a peep:

Women = Dog or Donkey or Pig or Black Dog

1. Narrated ‘Aisha: The things which annul prayer were mentioned before me (and those were): a dog, a donkey and a Woman.” (Bukhari,V1B9N493)

2. Muhammad said: Cut off your prayer when a dog, an ass, a pig, a Jew, or a woman passes in front you, but it will suffice if they pass in front of you at a distance of over a stone’s throw. (Book #2, Hadith #0704)

3. The Messenger of ‘Allah said: …y prayer would be cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman, and black Dog. When he was asked about the specialty of black dog, he said: The black dog is a devil. (Muslim, Book #004, Hadith #1032)

4. Believers, approach not prayers with a mind befogged or intoxicated until you understand what you utter, nor when you are polluted, until after you have bathed. If you are ill, or on a journey, or come from answering the call of nature, or you have touched a woman, and you find no water, then take for yourselves clean dirt, and rub your faces and hands. Lo! Allah is Benign, Forgiving. (Qur’an 4:43)

Comments-

a. Women, according to Islam, are as impure as dog, ass, and pig.

b. Islam is confused, whether to equate woman with a normal dog or a black dog since 1 and 2 above put any dog in woman’s category, whereas 3 puts only black dog with woman. By the way, black dog is Devil!!

c. Women are dirtier than any colored dog except black since these colorful dogs don’t qualify for the category of devils in which pigs, black dogs and women are kept.

d. Since women are devils, they can’t perform prayers. Their prayers will be cut off automatically in the very beginning due to their own dirtiness.

e. According to Quran, touching a woman is equivalent to touching shit and urine!

f. Women are more unclean and polluted than dirt! As per 4 above, dirt is supposed to purify the polluted hands and face of muslims who have touched woman.

g. But one thing is confusing, that a child is loved, kissed and fed by his mother. How can this verse be applicable to him? Or, is Quran an adult literature, which has no significance to children?

h. What do muslims do while eating the food cooked by the dirty hands of a woman? Is food washed before eating or rubbed into dirt?

i. What about the men (including Muhammad), who have/had the same blood flowing through their veins as that of their mothers (who are dirty as per Islam)? This whole body is formed in the womb of that dirty (?) woman, so why don’t muslims keep on rubbing their bodies in dirt every time?

Women are like horse (Evolution of Islam!)

Readers would be thinking that how one can compare women with dogs and pigs, but since Islam is humanitarian; it also has something, which is better than dogs and pigs to compare!

5. Allah’s Messenger had said. If bad luck is a fact, then it is in the horse, the woman and the house. (Muslim, Book #026, Hadith #5526)

6. The Prophet said: There is no hamah, no infection and no evil omen; if there is in anything an evil omen, it is a house, a horse, and a woman. (Muslim, Book #26, Hadith #5524)

Comments-

a. First of all thanks to Prophet Muhammad to uplift the status of woman from pigs and dogs to horse! Or is it evolution of Islam over ages? (We know that Quran and other Islamic books continued to be written ages after Muhammad’s death. Refer article on Quran and Vedas)

b. If bad luck exists, its source is women according to Islam. But Quran says that fate of everyone has already been decided by Allah and all the deeds of humans have been written in Lohe Mehfooz prior to their acts (Please refer to our article- “Helpless Destiny in Islam” to know more). Will not then Allah be the ultimate source of bad luck? Why did He write all bad luck in the fate of women? Or did Allah make women as a tool to transmit his bad luck?

c. Since woman is the source of all bad luck, what about Prophet Muhammad, who was also a product of a woman? Can we say that he was also a ……. to the world (please use common sense to fill the blank)?

Islam says women are inferior to men:

7. Muhammad said: woman is like a rib. When you attempt to straighten it, you would break it. And if you leave her alone you would benefit by her, and crookedness will remain in her. (Muslim, Book #008, Hadith #3466)

8. A woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status, her beauty and her religion. (Muslim, Book #008, Hadith #3457)

9. Once Aisha intended to set free two slaves of her who were spouses. She, therefore, asked the Prophet about this matter. He commanded to begin with the man before the woman. (Book #12, Hadith #2229)

10. Allah said, ‘It is My obligation to make Eve bleed once every month as she made this tree bleed. I must also make Eve stupid, although I created her intelligent.’ Because Allah afflicted Eve, all of the women of this world menstruate and are stupid. (Tabari I:280)

11. Allah directs you in regard of your Children’s (inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females. These are settled portions ordained by Allah. (Qur’an 4:11)

12. The Prophet said: ‘I was shown the Hell Fire and the majority of its dwellers were women who are disbelievers or ungrateful.’ When asked what they were ungrateful for, the Prophet answered, ‘All the favours done for them by their husbands.’(Bukhari:V1B2N28)

13. ‘O womenfolk, you should ask for forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of Hell.’ A wise lady said: Why is it, Allah’s Apostle, that women comprise the bulk of the inhabitants of Hell? The Prophet observed: ‘You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. You lack common sense, fail in religion and rob the wisdom of the wise.’ Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense? The Prophet replied, ‘Your lack of common sense can be determined from the fact that the evidence of two women is equal to one man. That is a proof.’ (Muslim:B1N142)

14. The Prophet said, ‘Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?’ The women said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is because of the deficiency of a woman’s mind.’ (Bukhari:V3B48N826)

15. In hell I saw women hanging by their breasts. They had fathered bastards. (Ishaq:185)

16. Ali [Muhammad's adopted son, son-in-law, and future Caliph] said, ‘Prophet, women are plentiful. You can get a replacement, easily changing one for another.’(Tabari VIII:62)

Comments-

a. Use of “you” in 7 indicates that most of hadith are only for men since such hadith are irrelevant for women. In fact the Islamic obsession with men is evident from description of heaven also, the ultimate destination of all Muslims, which has women and women for every man, but has no reference to what remains for women!

b. Muhammad compared woman with rib, which is bent always. But what is the mistake of women if they have been created from rib by Allah? Allah created Eve by a rib of Adam and hence Eve was given with the properties of rib. This property was further carried by the following generations. If Allah would have created Eve independently like Adam, or from a straight bone of him, women would have never become like rib.

Further, the world finds that more than women, it is men like the terrorists blasting and looting since ages who have refused to get to straight path. If we look at history, it is not woman, but the savage tribal man’s twisted obsession of treating women as tools for enjoyment, that has caused ruin in the world. So should not those Muslim men, who refuse to reject the false theories of Heaven and its lustful harem despite so clear loopholes in entire Quranic framework, be compared with the rib that cannot be straightened?

c. In Islam, women are just like goods kept for the sale on a roadside shop! If you like her property, status, beauty and religion, she is worthy to be married. Moreover, she can be replaced by a new one as women are plentiful as per 16. So women are use and throw kind of goods in Islam! By the way, are there any criteria for woman to choose man?

d. First of all Allah destined Eve to make the tree bleed and then complains about her act! Allah claims that He made Eve intelligent, but then question arises that how did she act foolishly?

e. If Eve committed mistake, Allah should have given her more wisdom so that she could improve herself. But Allah in contrary made her stupid and then afflicted her. Does not Allah seem to be doing anything without any purpose?

f. What is the mistake of women, who did not commit any sin but are made stupid as per Islam and are subjected to affliction just because they belong to the sex of Eve?

g. Majority of dwellers of hell are women, not because of their deeds but because of their husband’s favour for them! Can anyone understand the philosophy behind this verdict?

h. Women will constitute bulk of dwellers in hell because of their ungratefulness to their spouses, lack of common sense, failure in religion, and their nature to rob the wisdom of wise. But is this always true that only women are ungrateful? Why to blame less common sense if Allah gave it deliberately to fulfil His writing of Lohe Mehfooz? What is the meaning of failure of religion? Can any religion be greater than performing one’s duty towards her children, which every woman does? If Islam has put woman in the category of pigs and dogs in terms of dirtiness, why does Muhammad or Allah expect women to follow the religion?

i. 13 and 14, when read collectively, give very interesting results. In 13, Muhammad says that you (women) are dumb because two of you are needed against one man in testimony and in 14, he says that two of you are needed against one man in testimony because you are dumb! This is same as if someone claims that Islam is best because it is written in Quran. Now if someone asks, why to believe in Quran, he replies because Islam is best! This is the logic given by the greatest and wisest man ever born on earth!

Islam says never trust a woman

17. Tell the men with you who have wives: never trust a woman.(Ishaq:584)

Comments-

a. Now we understand, why do muslims blame their wives with all non sense and beat them. Muslims make their house a permanent hell, here on earth itself, because they don’t trust their wives. But one can ask, who is man to trust/distrust woman? Can’t a woman do same thing for man? These type of verses make it clear that Quran, Muhammad, and Allah, are all for men only. Women are mere machines to satisfy lust of men.

b. Aisha was Muhammad’s wife and most of the hadiths have been compiled on the basis of her narrations. If muslims are not to trust women, how can these hadiths be considered as authentic? Moreover, Aisha and Hafsa were involved in compilation of the Quran, which is available today. If Muhammad never trusted women, how can muslims trust the work of those women who were involved in a conspiracy against Muhammad (please read the incident of Maria in hadiths and seerat)? So, this is a biggest question mark on the authenticity of Quran and Hadith, and thus muslims should reject these books as per Muhammad’s order.

Status of women in Vedas

Unlike Quran, Vedas consider women to be respected the most; some of such Mantras are given below-

Parents should gift their daughter intellectuality and power of knowledge when she leaves for husband’s home. They should give her a dowry of knowledge. [Atharv Ved 14,1,6]

Oh woman! You are the keeper of knowledge of all types of actions (karma). [Atharva Ved 7,47,1]

Oh woman! You know everything. Please provide us strength of prosperity and wealth. [Atharva Ved 7,47,2]

There are ample such examples in Vedas, which are sufficient to prove that, Vedas are only scriptures, which are free from any prejudice and discrimination on the basis of gender. Everybody is requested to go through the article on this website-“Women in Vedas” to know more the status of women accorded in Vedas. I appeal to every muslim and non muslim sister to judge herself, which could be the true religion, the one which equates women with dogs and pigs, or the one, which regards woman as a sign of motherhood and wisdom.
